Challenge: GH Phipps ran into a challenge while shoring the design for the 60,500 square foot Global Down Syndrome Headquarters office building. The adjacent property owner demanded excessive compensation for shoring tie backs to installed within their property, causing additional unforeseen costs to the project.
Solution: Using knowledge gained from years of experience with similar scenarios, GH Phipps was able to bring alternative shoring options to the client, considering costs and time impacts, and select a modified approach which utilized a cantilever system. This solution eliminated the need to install tie backs within the neighboring property.
Exceptional Building Experience: Thanks to some quick thinking from GH Phipps, the schedule was impacted by less than one week and the cost to accommodate the new shoring method cost only 20% of what was asked by the neighboring property.
