The 126,000-square-foot project on the south side of the museum consists of two stories below grade for the museum’s first climate-controlled collections facilities, and three stories above ground that house spaces for exhibitions and science education. In addition to site logistics modeling, advanced detailing of reinforcing steel and embeds, and model coordination of MEP systems, GH Phipps utilized a detailed virtual wall mock-up to coordinate enclosure construction and better understand the project’s complex enclosure details.
